Hey guys! Here we are on the 5th episode of my feature, and there are still plenty of talented artists that I keep finding on DA that have not gotten the exposure that their work warrants. Some really great ones again time around... hope you all enjoy!

Okay, so I'm a little late in my updates this week, but here are my picks for this installment of my feature, 5 Deviants that Deserve Your Attention. These guys and gals are so good it makes me question why I even try to draw! However, after I get over my initial amazement, then feelings of inferiority, I am finally inspired to get better! :) Hope you enjoy!

Hey guys! So, I've been coming across some really great talent on DA lately, and many of them aren't getting as much recognition as I believe they should. It's my honor to present to you episode three of my weekly feature! Hope you enjoy!

Hey all! So, the first journal was such a success in terms of getting some much needed views for some lesser known but awesome deviants that I've decided to follow it up sooner than I originally planned! Hopefully I can continue to do this as a weekly or bi-weekly feature. We'll see! I only want to do it as long as I keep coming across great talent that has yet to be recognized. So far, there's no shortage though :) Thank you all for checking them out! Here are my choices for this episode:

Hey all, just decided to start doing a little feature here maybe once a month or more featuring deviants that maybe don't have a ton of views, but that I believe deserve more. I'm going to choose 5 for each feature, and please feel free to PM me with others who I may not be aware of but you think that I should feature. Please choose deviants with less than 100k views as the purpose of this is to attempt to gain more exposure for deviants who are lesser known. Here are my inaugural choices:

Dusk Gang Children by GusStorms

Constance Chesterton and the Cogs of Karma by synthezoide

Hey all,

I'm sorry to say I had to cancel my plans to go to SDCC at the last minute. At the moment I'm just too busy with deadlines for multiple jobs and also for my environment design class. Sorry I won't be able to see you all there...Maybe next year!

I currently have only 4 spots available so if you're interested in getting one, please let me know now via private message. My current rate is $350 for 12X18 single character on colored paper done in ink, marker, white pencil and colored pencil. Multi-character commissions are available upon request and I will quote you a price based on your description of what you want. You can see examples of my commission work all through my gallery. Here are a few of my favorites: Creature from the Black Lagoon Surge Dejah Thoris Red Sonja

Also, I will be at the Aspen Comics booth on Saturday signing books and doing sketches. Stop by and get a sketch, a signature, or just come by and chat! Hope to see you there!

Hey all! Just thought I'd write a quick note and let you all know that I'm taking a class at Concept Design Academy in Pasadena. It's Environment Design taught by the awesome James Paick , who's worked on a ton of fantastic IPs, one of my favorites being the Uncharted games. So, I'm really excited to be taking his class, and will be posting up my homework assignments every week. This first week we're doing 10 paintings, 5 of which will be Master Studies, and 5 will be of our own creation. I'm doing the studies right now, and I feel I'm learning a lot. They're all just grey scale at this point, just working on values before getting to color. Anyway, I'm really excited about showing you guys the progress I make through the next ten weeks of the course!

My Dream is for You to be My Boss.

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 17, 2014, 2:31 PM
So, as many of you know, I'm working on and off on a creator-owned property which I intend to publish both online and in book form. Recently I became aware of a new crowd-funding site call Patreon( ), which I believe has the very real potential to revolutionize how artists and creators make their living, and bring the idea of being a "Patron of the Arts" to its purest form. Unlike Kickstarter and other similar crowd-funding sites, Patreon is a system in which "Patrons" give small monthly contributions to artists/projects that they want to fund, and in return they get to be a part of making projects happen that otherwise never would have a chance. There are also similar incentives that are employed as rewards for higher donations, similar to Kickstarter. I am extremely excited about this possibility, and hope to someday be able to transition from my current state of working for various companies at which I have a boss that I report to, who has his boss, who has another boss, who then has a board of directors, who have focus groups that tell them what they should fund and what they shouldn't. Patreon and other sites like it take out all the middle men and give a direct path from the audience, to the creator. I think this is brilliant, and I fully intend to try to utilize this incredible system in the future. If you'd like to listen to an interview with the founders of Patreon by the awesome Chris Oatley of Oatley Academy fame, click here:… Thanks for reading, and supporting! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Patreon specifically, and crowd-funding in general.

Hey all,

Just thought I should let you know the first episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that I did storyboards on just aired! Best of all, its currently up on Nickelodeon's website so you can watch it for free! I worked on the second half,(***SPOILER WARNING*** mainly the sequence where the turtles escape Shredder's lair and also the part where April, Casey and Donnie take on the worm in the sewer and it barfs on them). I worked on this episode about a year ago, so its exciting to finally have it come out. Anyway, here's a link to the show:… Hope you enjoy it!

Okay, so you all know by now that I didn't post yesterday like I said I would...And I would have, had it been at all possible to do so and also stay in good standing at my regular job. This was a really intense week of work, and I literally did nothing on my Project: OPUS stuff. That said, I fully intend to get back to it this week. Probably tomorrow I will start refining one of the concepts I created, and it will probably be another week until I post. Sorry for disappointing some of you, but no one is more disappointed than me! Unfortunately sometimes we all have to prioritize in the direction of where the money is coming from :) Hope you're all well, and thanks for your support!

Okay, so after hearing the almost unanimous feedback, and following my own creative impulse, I'm going to start alternating 1 week of once a day sketches with 1 week of 1 finished concept piece. So, I'm going to post next Monday a more refined version of one of my previous sketches. That means no daily posts until then. Once that piece is posted, I'll do a week of daily sketches again, and then repeat the process. Thank you all for your feedback, and for following the production of this project! :)

Happy New Year everyone! As is the tradition, I've made a resolution, and that is to work on my dream project every day, and share it with you! As some of you may know, I've been spending what little spare time I have working on and off on a creator-owned project for quite some time now. I've decided to create a blog, which I will update every day with developmental sketches from this forthcoming project. For now, its code named Project: OPUS! A bit grandiose perhaps, but I intend it to be my greatest work, which is why I chose the name. Please follow and share if you'd like to help spread the word. Thanks! Turnaround by MicahJGunnell

Hey peeps, just wanted to say thanks for all the birthday wishes! I'm insanely busy right now and unfortunately haven't been posting anything on DA in a while. I'm hoping that will change in the next month or so when I finish up a bit of freelance work I've been doing on top of my TMNT storyboarding. I really want to do some personal work soon, and when I do, you all will be the first to see! Thanks again for the kind words and comments, and for looking at my art!

Hey all,

Its kind of old news but I didn't want to announce it immediately...I just recently joined the team on Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show! Its a huge honor to be working with all the talented folks on here...There are some amazing board artists on the show. Also, the show itself is great in my opinion, so that makes it even more of a pleasure to be a part of it. On top of that, like most guys my age I grew up watching turtles, and its really nostalgic to be working with these characters. Anyway, if you haven't checked out the show yet, please do, you won't be disappointed!

I just finished the first layout for my creator owned book! Not a big accomplishment by any means, but its the start of a project that I've been developing for the past 13 years...My writer friend and I finally have distilled the story down to its essence, and we're moving forward with the production now. At this point all I have is a single layout, but its the first step in a journey that I've been wanting to embark on for such a long time. This project probably won't be completed until a few years now, but I'll be giving updates here and there as things get moving. I can promise that I will put my heart and soul into it, and for this reason I can't wait to share it with you guys!

Idolized Signing in Burbank.

Hey guys,

My new book, IDOLIZED, came out this week from Aspen comics so please try to pick it up if it looks like something you might be interested in. So far its getting great reviews on both the story and art, so I'm kind of excited about that :) This Saturday I'll be doing a signing at Emerald Knights in Burbank, CA...If you're in the area you should stop by, I'll hook you up with a free sketch if you buy the book and mention Deviantart! Hope to see you there! Here are some excerpts of reviews of the book:…
#1 can't miss comic of the week.  "[A]n awesome story" "Adding to the great story is the amazing art delivered by Micah Gunnell."  "[I]t's great to see such an awesome new character come on the scene. My only complaint is that the 0 issue left me wanting more, and Issue 1 isn't due out 'till August.  I want to read more now!"
"Excellent."  "[a] well crafted and well done story."  "5 out of 5"…
"David Schwartz has already drawn me in. I am filled with questions and have a wanting for more."  "[T]he artwork in Idolized is just gorgeous. David Curiel's colors just shine off the page."…
"[W]ith fun writing, an intriguing protagonist, and some pretty brightly colored panels, Idolized looks like one new series worth a look."…;
"This might be the sleeper hit of the year. Everything popular is wrapped up inside this cover and two staples. There will be no stopping Aspen Comics with this title. Strong recommendation to buy it and I will be there each and every month putting Idolized at the top of my stack.", "Please don't skip over anything in this issue. Read every word, explore every panel and don't you dare assume that the faux magazine pages in the back are just filler. This is going to be one of the richest titles of the year. In one issue there are already numerous agendas to be explored."…
"Idolized #0 is perhaps the greatest zero issue I've read to date",  "you're going to read Idolized #0 and be hooked",  "in every way, from art to words, this zero issue stands out as the start of something great."…
"I was very impressed with the issue.  It has a very interesting story, good character design, and the art in this book is gorgeous.  After I finished reading this issue I was compelled to pick it up again and just look though the art since it was so good.  For fans of superhero and are tired of DC or Marvel stuff give this zero issue of Idolized a shot it's got a great twist and the art is awesome as well."…
"I loved the first issue!...With a terrific story and amazing art, Idolized equals a hit series!"…
"This is Aspen's first foray into the world of super hero comics and they do not disappoint"…
"It's a fresh look at superheroes and reality television and it works. Joule's story is interesting and it'll be fun as a reader to find out what really happened."
