I'm a Director!

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 6, 2015, 11:51 AM
Hey all,

First off, I want to apologize for my lack of updates lately...I have been extremely busy and have not been able to sketch much. I was recently promoted at Marvel to a Director's position on Avengers Assemble and have been working really hard to learn how to do the job correctly. In addition to my responsibilities as Director, I've also been contributing some character designs which eventually will appear on the show in some iteration. Anyway, I've not given up on my sketches, and will be trying to post another set tomorrow. I appreciate all the support and comments you guys give, and it motivates me to continue providing you with the best art I possibly can!

Commissions are open!

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 12, 2015, 12:56 PM
Hey all, just thought I should let everyone know, I'll have a few weeks off from animation after this week and will be opening up my commissions list. I have a maximum of 5 spots open at this time, and I do not anticipate much free time for the foreseeable future, so if you've been wanting something from me, now is the time to get it! For those interested, please send me a private message. My rate ranges between $150-500 depending on the size, complexity, and if B&W or color. I give specific quotes based off of your request. Below are a few examples of my past commission work. Thanks!

Hey everyone! Sorry this is a little late this week...Been working some very crazy hours over the last few days. Anyway, I didn't want to neglect my feature, so here it is! This week I've decided to focus on environments, so here are 5 really beautiful ones by some fantastic artists who I believe deserve more attention than they've received so far on DA. Hope you enjoy, thanks for checking them out! :)

Welcome to the under 15 club! No, I'm not featuring a bunch of teenagers this week(I am featuring one however, and she is amazingly talented!). No, by under 15 I mean that all of these deviants have less than 15,000 views. That in itself is nothing special of course, but the quality of the artwork that all of them are producing is QUITE special. I seriously can't believe that more people haven't discovered them yet, but I'm sure that all of them will soon be well known in the DeviantArt community. So, without further ado, here are this week's 5 Deviants that Deserve Your Attention! Enjoy!

Hey all! Again, very busy, but I gotta do my feature! Also want to say thank you to all of you that responded to my poll...As the response was pretty much split, some weeks I will post only one, more finished piece, and other weeks I'll post the sketch page full of less refined sketches. I've already got a single finished piece ready for next week that I think you'll enjoy. Anyway, enough about that...Some really fantastic artists again this week...Hope you enjoy!

Hey everyone! Here's the seventh installment of my feature. I know I keep on saying it, but it's really amazing how many relatively undiscovered talents there are out there, and also how many up and coming artists out there that appear to have very bright futures. It's exciting!

Also wanted to give you all a quick update on my creator-owned project...It's progressing steadily! A few of the sketches I've been posting have been designs for various characters and locations from the book I'll be doing, but the main area of progress has been in the script for the first volume. It's taking a little longer than the writer and I thought it would, but not by much. I think we're about halfway through the first volume at this point, and we're at the point of just making a few subtle changes here and there, but the overall story is already solidly planned out. I can't wait to start drawing the layouts for it!

One more note, just wanted to say thank you to all of those that sent me birthday wishes. I think I responded to everyone individually but if I missed someone I just wanted to make sure I got out a general thank you as well :)

Anyway, so here are this week's picks. Hope you all enjoy!

Hey all! My buddy :iconjoshuacovey: is doing a KickStarter campaign for his new book The ROAD NORTH and he needs you're help! You may also know his work from his previous book, BAAKO. I think he's a fantastic artist, and the new book looks really interesting. He's also experienced with KickStarter and knows what it takes to run a successful and professional campaign, so you can rest easy about funding his project. Hope you guys consider supporting his work! Click the link here to check it out: The ROAD NORTH KICKSTARTER

Hey all! Just a quick note in addition to the featured Deviants...Just wanted to say thank you all for your support, especially those who have been following me for years, but also those who recently discovered my work. I really, truly appreciate all the kind words, comments, and favorites...It means a lot and honestly it really motivates me and encourages me to post more and to make sure I bring it every time!

I wanted to let every know that has been paying attention to my past mentions about my creator-owned project...I am super excited to say that the script for volume 1 will be completed in the next week so, and I will be starting on actual page layouts soon after!! I can't wait to show you guys teaser images and more designs and stuff.

Also wanted to mention one more thing about these features...They are not always going to be showcasing artists that have, say, less than 100k views. This week in particular features the first deviant with more than 100k, and it's because in my opinion, he should have far more than that considering he's been on DA for 9 years. So in other words, this feature is for deviants that I feel are not getting attention that is commensurate with the quality of their work. Sometimes that could be a a deviant with 10k views that I feel should have in the neighborhood of 60k views based on their skill and time on DA, and other times it could be an artist with 200K views that I think should have a million views! It really just depends. Anyway, just wanted to clarify that because I had received a question previously about why I featured a particular artist who was already "well-known"...Okay! Ahem...Without further ado, here are this weeks selections for my feature! Enjoy!

Hey guys! Here we are on the 5th episode of my feature, and there are still plenty of talented artists that I keep finding on DA that have not gotten the exposure that their work warrants. Some really great ones again this time around... hope you all enjoy!

Okay, so I'm a little late in my updates this week, but here are my picks for this installment of my feature, 5 Deviants that Deserve Your Attention. These guys and gals are so good it makes me question why I even try to draw! However, after I get over my initial amazement, then feelings of inferiority, I am finally inspired to get better! :) Hope you enjoy!

Hey guys! So, I've been coming across some really great talent on DA lately, and many of them aren't getting as much recognition as I believe they should. It's my honor to present to you episode three of my weekly feature! Hope you enjoy!

Hey all! So, the first journal was such a success in terms of getting some much needed views for some lesser known but awesome deviants that I've decided to follow it up sooner than I originally planned! Hopefully I can continue to do this as a weekly or bi-weekly feature. We'll see! I only want to do it as long as I keep coming across great talent that has yet to be recognized. So far, there's no shortage though :) Thank you all for checking them out! Here are my choices for this episode:

Hey all, just decided to start doing a little feature here maybe once a month or more featuring deviants that maybe don't have a ton of views, but that I believe deserve more. I'm going to choose 5 for each feature, and please feel free to PM me with others who I may not be aware of but you think that I should feature. Please choose deviants with less than 100k views as the purpose of this is to attempt to gain more exposure for deviants who are lesser known. Here are my inaugural choices:

Hey all,

I'm sorry to say I had to cancel my plans to go to SDCC at the last minute. At the moment I'm just too busy with deadlines for multiple jobs and also for my environment design class. Sorry I won't be able to see you all there...Maybe next year!

Hey all! Just thought I'd write a quick note and let you all know that I'm taking a class at Concept Design Academy in Pasadena. It's Environment Design taught by the awesome James Paick , who's worked on a ton of fantastic IPs, one of my favorites being the Uncharted games. So, I'm really excited to be taking his class, and will be posting up my homework assignments every week. This first week we're doing 10 paintings, 5 of which will be Master Studies, and 5 will be of our own creation. I'm doing the studies right now, and I feel I'm learning a lot. They're all just grey scale at this point, just working on values before getting to color. Anyway, I'm really excited about showing you guys the progress I make through the next ten weeks of the course!

My Dream is for You to be My Boss.

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 17, 2014, 2:31 PM
So, as many of you know, I'm working on and off on a creator-owned property which I intend to publish both online and in book form. Recently I became aware of a new crowd-funding site call Patreon( ), which I believe has the very real potential to revolutionize how artists and creators make their living, and bring the idea of being a "Patron of the Arts" to its purest form. Unlike Kickstarter and other similar crowd-funding sites, Patreon is a system in which "Patrons" give small monthly contributions to artists/projects that they want to fund, and in return they get to be a part of making projects happen that otherwise never would have a chance. There are also similar incentives that are employed as rewards for higher donations, similar to Kickstarter. I am extremely excited about this possibility, and hope to someday be able to transition from my current state of working for various companies at which I have a boss that I report to, who has his boss, who has another boss, who then has a board of directors, who have focus groups that tell them what they should fund and what they shouldn't. Patreon and other sites like it take out all the middle men and give a direct path from the audience, to the creator. I think this is brilliant, and I fully intend to try to utilize this incredible system in the future. If you'd like to listen to an interview with the founders of Patreon by the awesome Chris Oatley of Oatley Academy fame, click here:… Thanks for reading, and supporting! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Patreon specifically, and crowd-funding in general.

Hey all,

Just thought I should let you know the first episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that I did storyboards on just aired! Best of all, its currently up on Nickelodeon's website so you can watch it for free! I worked on the second half,(***SPOILER WARNING*** mainly the sequence where the turtles escape Shredder's lair and also the part where April, Casey and Donnie take on the worm in the sewer and it barfs on them). I worked on this episode about a year ago, so its exciting to finally have it come out. Anyway, here's a link to the show:… Hope you enjoy it!

Okay, so you all know by now that I didn't post yesterday like I said I would...And I would have, had it been at all possible to do so and also stay in good standing at my regular job. This was a really intense week of work, and I literally did nothing on my Project: OPUS stuff. That said, I fully intend to get back to it this week. Probably tomorrow I will start refining one of the concepts I created, and it will probably be another week until I post. Sorry for disappointing some of you, but no one is more disappointed than me! Unfortunately sometimes we all have to prioritize in the direction of where the money is coming from :) Hope you're all well, and thanks for your support!
